The World’s Largest chair
The largest chair measured 30m (98 ft 5 in) tall. It was made by XXXLutz and Holzleimbauwerk Wiehag GmbH (all Austria) and was completed and presented in St. Florian, Austria, on 9 February 2009. It was certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest chair. Source: Guinness world records
Many people are familiar with the red chairs of XXXL furniture stores from TV ads. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the largest chair in the world is 30 metres tall and is located in St. Florian, close to Linz. It was created by Wiehag, and WAGNER’s wet coating method was used to paint it. Wiehag GmbH in Altheim (Upper Austria) was chosen by furniture chain XXXLutz primarily for its quick delivery times and superior product quality. In addition to the building roof, ceiling, and wall components, Wiehag also constructs full roofs and large-span bearing systems. One of its projects is the new London Crossrail railway station in Canary Wharf, which has a timber roof.
The biggest challenge with the XXXL chairs was selecting the wood quality and the coating. Wiehag used 70 cubic meters of laminated Douglas fir timber for the chair in St. Florian. The company searched for a system capable of efficiently coating large, long wooden parts inside the hall.
If I think of sitting in the biggest chair, it might create a sense of comfort and security, as it can make me feel more supported and relaxed than a smaller chair. It can also make me feel important or powerful, especially if the chair is in a position of authority, like a throne or a CEO’s chair.
On the other hand, I have the feeling of being in a situation that is a more significant thing, such as a responsibility or challenge, it can be overwhelming or intimidating, like being in a “big chair.” It can also create a sense of awe and wonder as if you are part of something larger than yourself. Overall, the “biggest chair feeling” can evoke different emotions depending on the context and individual experiences.

On Bournemouth Beach, a couple sits in what is rumoured to be the largest deckchair in the world. The deck chair weighs close to six tonnes and is about eight and a half metres tall by five and a half metres broad.
This chair was an impressive 8.5 metres tall and 5.5 metres broad. If someone tall enough could sit in it, it would provide a lovely perspective of the coastline. It’s just like a magic chair that is strong enough to not flow with the wind. It would be really romantic to sit with our loved ones and see the perfect view on the beach.
